Rund eineinhalb Stunden nach der Kollision hörte Carpathia-Funker Harold Cottham gegen Mitternacht einen Notruf der Titanic . Kapitän Arthur Henry Rostron schickte sein Schiff sofort in Richtung der Unglücksstelle, 60 Seemeilen entfernt durch ein dichtes Eisfeld. Gegen vier Uhr morgens traf die Carpathia auf die Rettungsboote mit den 712 Überlebenden.

Around midnight Harold Cottham, the wireless operator on board the Carpathia got a Titanic distress call. Captain Arthur Henry Rostron and his ship rushed 60 miles through an icefield for assistance. Four hours later they met the rescue boats with 712 survivors.
